Hello from Michigan

Postby VirgoWolf on Tue Jun 17, 2008 8:47 pm

Hi, just introducing myself... My name is Krystal and my husband's name is Chris. We started this hobby with a 18gal fish tank with some random tetras and guppies... that didn't last long. We moved up to a bigger tank, then got another tank, and another, then the pond came along, then more tanks.... you see where this is going...

A couple weeks ago we added a 50gal preform to the collection. Right now it's just plants, but I'm looking to add some small fish. We also have a large pond out back that is out not in use this year as we're making changes to the landscape. We'll be completely redoing it in the spring. So now we're adding a 300gal stock tank to hold the few fish we have for the big pond and the extra plants. It will be brought into the garage for the winter to overwinter all the plants and some of the small fish.

Inside we have tanks all over, they are moving as the fish grow and we remodel, so I'm not even going to try to list them all, but they range from 5.5gals up to 220gals and we keep everything from dwarf freshwater shrimp to oscars.

As far as non-finned pets, we have 3 dogs, Samantha (A.K.A. Sammy) is a Husky/Chow/Skipperkie mix, she's going to be 7 this year, Lexus was supposed to be a Rott/Dane mix, but she's fully mature at 42 pounds and knee high, she's most likely a Rott/Shepherd mix, maybe even Shep/Lab, she's 3, then there's Roxie, she's a German Shep./ Beagle mix and the baby at 2. Yes I did end up with 3 medium, mostly black, female dogs. Not at all what I wanted, but they all stole my heart and fate doesn't let you be choosey.

We also have 2 cats, Pepe (le pew) is a DSH B&W tuxedo, don't know how old he is, but probably 3 or 4. Keelie is a DMH Calico and she's is 2.

And believe it or not, there's more.... We have a rat, Joey, and 2 syrian hamsters, Jaffa (f) and Runt (m).

All our pets were adopted or rescued, including a good number of the fish. We used to keep reptiles too, but once we got in so deep with the fish, and then had to move, we had to make the hard decision between the fish or reptiles and the fish won out. I'd love to keep reptiles again some day, but we have enough on our plate at the moment with all the other critters around here.

Here are some pics of the new little pond we put in. If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to post pics of the other pets and I can probably pull out some pics of the big pond from last year, I'm going to redesign it, so I'll be posting questions and such about it before too long anyway. (My Av pic is from last year in the big pond)

Hello Krystal and welcome to the forum

SE Michigan! Puts you pretty close to our home town of Rochester where Rich and I both grew up!

We owned a retail nursery/garden center pond store in Ortonville for 13 years. We sold it and moved to NC in January of 2000.

Your little pond is really cute.

There is a section to post photos of other animals if you want to post more photos.

Once again, welcome.

Thanks guys! :D We are pretty close, we're in Auburn Hills/Pontaic, I woulden't doubt we've come across eachother at some point, I spent half of my childhood at rochester park and walking around downtown. :) I have family up in goodrich/lapeer/dryden too, it'd be so convenient if you still lived up here. I've been checking your site out for years, since I was an active member of a different forum. I didn't realize this forum existed untill today though, but I jumped on the chance to join. I miss the ponding community. Glad to be back and it looks like I coulden't have found a better place!

I will post some pics of the other critters later in the proper forum. :) I'm on my mom's laptop now, so I don't have any pics now, but I'll definitly post once I get to my desktop. :)

hello krystal and chris hope you have fun like we do and there is something new to learn everyday. I live in middleboro Massachusetts which is close to cape cod if you look on a map to see where everyone lives. I love to see where everyone is from so when I am talking to them I'll find out if I had been there or not. I get itchy feet to go places now that I have a somewhat empty nest 8) I've been to many states and looking forward to many returns.
