the pond has been set up for about a month but just added fish 2 days ago.

and the large black ones are chasing and picking at the small one and sometimes
seem like they are trying to push it out of the pond....what is going on.... :?:

The bubbles and the fish chasing one another makes me think they are spawning. Does the water smell really fishy :?:

The chasing and picking sounds like spawning. I just witnessed the same thing this weekend in my pond. The males chase the females around the pond and rub and bump their sides. A couple of times it would seem to get very violent and the females looked like they may get pushed out of the water but then it would calm down again for a bit. I just kept checking on them throughout the day to make sure none of them got pushed out of the pond. It only lasted one day for me. Check the sides of your pond and any plants, etc for eggs. The fish eat up the eggs pretty quickly so if you see them all gathered in one area eating at something, definitely check that spot for eggs. I had a ton of eggs on the roots of my plants.

Congrtulations Sheryle,
You have just witnessed spawning activity. If you want to look around for eggs, they will look like tapioca. Sometimes it takes a little detective work, look at the underside of leaves, on the side of the pond, planters, etc. The fish will eat most of the eggs that were laid in the easy to see places. Ha ha
