pump performance

Postby sheryle on Sat Jun 07, 2008 10:18 pm

i am using our old swimming pool pump and filter system..... my pond is 1000 gallons....the pump is 2000 gph, i modified the filter part and filled it with netting material (like what wedding veils are made of) works great.. but i was wondering if the length of hose decreases the gph..... it is about 7 feet total..... :?:

i still need to make my faux rock to cover system.....the water is actually quite clear except for the floaties that i have been sweeping up..... i did put a little pond blue in it....

william our boxer (5yrs old) loves his new water bowl..... .

Yes…the filter will change the flow rate is it becomes clogged. The distance the water is above and below the pump the length of the lines…and their diameter… all affect the flow rate out of the pump.
The easiest way to test is to use a bucket and time the flow to fill up the bucket.

this is my filter system.... we used a shop vac tube and cut it down to modified the filter
to work for pond...... now the water comes in at bottom on outside of tube...fills up and spills
over and down the middle of tube and out hose......it really circulates the water i just want to make sure it is
filtering all it can.... i hate the green floating algae....

Cool Pond and fish. The detailed pictures of the filtering system are great.

I like mine a little over 8 but never below 7. if you test for Kh and Gh and keep those parameters at their proper levels the ph will take care of itself.(at least in my experience)
