Spring Patience

Ok, I can't take this any longer. My koi are in there...I know they are. I catch glimpses of them so I know they are alive and they are in there but I haven't seen them since like December and I'm going mad. So yesterday I decide to clean some uck out around the edges and do a little rock and levelling work in the hopes that at least one pops out to say hello. Nothing. Ok, maybe I should fire up the pump and siphon a little off. Just a scosche

Finally!! I get some fish butts, tails a waggin' :D . Hmm, It seems I'm finding an aweful lot of earth worms while I'm digging so I just accidentally toss one in and out pops Radar... living up to his name. He darts back as soon as he sees me grinning dang it. Can the water just be 55 already .. come on!! I'm feeling like a 4 year old in a puppy store - "just let me hold them please..."

Anyone else?

I know how you feel. but because my pond was under consrution I was able to have my koi in my basment all winter. so I didn't have to worry about them under the ice. my pond is almost finished now there is alot of planting to do. and grass to grow

Koi love earthworms. They are great to get the fish to hand feed.

This is such a bad time of the year for my cold climate friends. One must have patience in waiting for the ice to melt and fish to wake up and start feeding. Also they have to have patience in adding plants because of the danger of frosty/freezing nights.

Do a water change by siphoning or vacuuming off the bottom. Wait a few days and repeat. Time to get the dirty stagnant water out, especially if you did not do a good cleaning last fall.

Regards,
Bonnie
