Another great start-up!

Postby Koigardener on Sun Apr 13, 2008 4:40 pm

On Friday the pond and the tapwater matched temperatures. Even better it was 70 degrees and sunny outside! I did about a 33% water change over a 12 hour period and sucked up some stray leaves. No ammonia or trites. Nitrates are about 5. String algae is non-existent. Food is on order but I did treat a few lucky koi to a carpender bee treat and even F-2 the bullfrog got one.
This was by far the easist startup. I am loving the aquamats more every year.

How exciting, everything about your pond looks amazing. We just received around 8" of snow 2 days ago but the forecast is showing spring like temps this coming week, thankfully. What is a carpender bee treat  ?

Thanks, I am pretty happy with what started out as an experiment. The first couple years I had tons of string algae. The last couple years I have had none.

They resemble a Bumble Bee but bore holes in wood. I whack them into the pond with a badmitton racket, the walking wounded get tossed to the frog.

The frogs and toads are out and doing "their thing"

We hear their screaming mating calls that start around dusk every night now. Tomorrow we are going to get a frost. Dang!
