Frog "action" shots

Postby Koigardener on Tue May 06, 2008 10:17 am

I was trying to catch F-2 in feeding mode. This shot was close but the aquatic Forget-me-nots ended up hiding the cricket in the photo

He looks like an alligator in the second picture! Yikes!

I see that you feed your frogs - do you just sort of hand them crickets? How does that work? I have fish that eat out of my hand, but I didn't know you could feed frogs.

I feed them by tossing the crickets into the marginal plants then the frogs go hunt them. I did find a nifty way to dispense them at Petsmart. It's called a Lee's Kricket Keeper. The crickets crawl up into dark tubes that can be removed from the cage and carried pondside. It is very easy to shake out a few and then toss them to the frogs.
You need to provide a source of water for the crickets too. I use Flukers Cricket Quencher also available at Petsmart.

WOW ! gut loading your crickets for your frog. I thought that we only did that for our lizards and frogs that are in the house. F2 is one lucky frog. crickets can cost 10-15 cents each. hope you have your Pet Perks saver card.

One of these days I am going to build a proper cricket cage and buy them online for a penny a piece!

if you build one out of screen mesh they last a very long time and if it is warm outside they can stay out. I have a friend that keeps them like that. In the winter time he keeps hissing cockroaches  and breeds them for his lizards. those things are so gross but it beats buying them all the time. as long as they don't get to wet or they drown they are stupid when it comes to water
