WOW I love that your pond is in bloom were jeaolus here in massachusetts. but the weather is warming up a little very nice pond. I'll have to get my pic of the humming bird that I'm holding in my hand. she ran low on sugar as she got into my garage and fell on the ground and I almost stepped on her. My husband came running with the camera as I held her up to the feeder so she could drink she then graced my presence for a few pics and left. I know that the hummer goes into a stupper so they can conserve energy. boy I'm telling you it was an amazing thing to hold as you cannot feel the body weight in your hand  pic to come soon

I would love to see the photo of the hummingbirds too!

I have a feeder outside my kitchen window and they sit on the telephone line and "cuss" me out when it is empty. Once I fill it back up they are happy again. Ever here them chatter? They should be here in NC soon as it is warming up.

It is spring here now, the red buds, forsythia, dogwoods, tulips and daffodils are all in bloom and so are the crab apples. I LOVE spring, it is my favorite time of the year.

Teresa, my Molly (now deceased rottenweiller) used to drive me nuts because she would take plants out of the pond when we were not looking. She was being trained as a personal protection dog for me by a trainer who trained dogs for the state police in Michigan. The trainer told me to push her head in the water in the pond. Dang, I hated to do it but she never bothered the plants again after I did that.

She also dug under the fence and he told me to fill the hole with water and put her head in the water. She was also a guard dog to keep the thieves from coming over the fence in our nursery. The hole with water and her head in the water did that trick too. She lived at our store and only when home with on Christmas eve because the only day we were closed was Christmas day. But she would not sleep at our house because it was not "home" to her. So we would have to take her back at night.
She did finally adjust to being in a home when we moved to NC.

Funny story. One night I stayed at work until the wee hours. Molly would stay right by my side when I was there. The trainer had pre-arranged to come over the fence at midnight. She went after him until he gave the off signal and she knew him. Needless to say we were never broken into after that! He told me "Bonnie, there is no doubt in my mind Molly would give her life for yours" Brings tears to my eyes just to think of her. I visit her grave in our yard quite often and think of her often even though she has been gone 5 years now. We even have a headstone we had carved with her name on it. It was compliments of our vet when we put her to sleep. Has little foot prints embedded in it.

I learned so much from him on training dogs.

Well, I have to get back to work, got orders to get ready for shipping tomorrow

Hi Bonnie, I don't think poking his head in the water will help as he has his head in the water a lot. Runs around the doggy pool with his head under and always snapping the water when its running out of the water holes. I am just surprise he has stayed out of the ponds so far  It is amazing how we love our pets. :) We have lived here for 30 years and have three of out beloved pets burried out back.

LOL Teresa,

You have to stick his head in the water all the way and keep it for a few seconds.

good thing you guys don't have labradors. 8) mine goes under water to swim with the fish. she loves to do a running jump and dive at the same time. she learned this trick at the ocean when the kids were small and would throw rocks in the water and she'd go right in and bring them back. when we moved here my kids used to swim in the pond till we got the koi so the dog would join right in. it was a sight to see  so I can't dunk my dog. but you are right about that my german shep got dunked and he hated it. so for all the pond swimming dogs.... please make sure that its ears are dry!!! And you have something like panalog or ottomax to put in them. this med you can get at your vet., this way the dog won't get an ear infection. you get the treatment before it gets one. it is a little greasy but it doesn't hurt the fish. or you can wind up with very smelly ears and once that happens its hard to get rid of. an once of prevention is worth a pound of cure
