Purple Loosestrife Lythrum
virgatum 'Morden Gleam'
I have included this plant in the plant profiles.
The problem is that it is banned in most states and can not be sold as it is taking over the wetlands and natural waterways.
Some states have brought in beetles to devour the plant and keep it from spreading.
Above is Morden's Gleam with is seedless and legal to sell in quite a few states.
Hardy to Zone 3 or higher.
Full Sun to Partial Shade
Red purple flowers persist on tall spikes for several weeks in the summer and reflect beautifully on the waters surface.
The plant grows about 3' tall.
The purple flowers persist on the tall spikes for several weeks in July and August.
My favorite thing is the way the plant makes a beautiful reflection on the water.
This plant can be potted, or the rooted ends tucked into the rocks of a streambed or water fall.
Illegal in the states below:
IA, MT, MN, NC, NE, NV, NH, WA, ND, AR, PA, WI, and TN
