Blue Bells, Bluebells

Bluebells, Ruellia brittoniana,  has dark blue-purple flowers on rich dark green foliage. Grows 2 to 3' tall

Bluebells can be potted, or the rooted ends tucked into the rocks of a streambed or water fall.

Hardy zones 8 or higher but can be "lifted" and stored in moist peat over the winter in zones less than 8.

I have had some over-winter here in zone 7 though, depending on the winter.

Blue Bells Compacta

Bluebells compacta, Ruellia brittoniana compacta,  is almost identical to the regular blue bells except it is a more compact growing plant.

Compacta grows about 8 inches tall

Hardy zones 8 or higher but can be "lifted" and stored in moist peat over the winter in zones less than 8.

I have had some over-winter here in zone 7 though, depending on the winter.

In the photo, the plant is growing soil-less in my streambed in 2 inches of water

Bluebells Chi-Chi

Bluebells Chi-Chi, Ruellia brittoniana,  has soft pink flowers and dark green foliage with a purplish tinge. Grows 2 to 3' tall

Chi-Chi can be potted, or the rooted ends tucked into the rocks of a streambed or water fall.

Hardy zones 8 or higher but can be "lifted" and stored in moist peat over the winter in zones less than 8.

I have had some over-winter here in zone 7 though, depending on the winter.
