The plant has a cylindrical habit when grown in a container. It is evergreen and tolerates some shade. Prefers no more than 1 or 2 inches of water over the top of the pot. Hardy zone 5 or higher.

This plant can be potted, or the rooted ends tucked into the rocks of a streambed or water fall.
